Can I replace my VCRs, with what, and not have cable.? - hd vcrs excellent technical and content coverage

I would like to just my TV antenna, not HDTV, and with a video recorder, programs for later viewing. I want to replace my VCR with TVO, or anything, without cable or antenna. And it's not really a trailer of the DVD and you do not like to include a program to save the program, simply by watching and re-record something else. Once again, a hard drive seems to find the best route. Can I do this? What equipment do I need from?
